Bare Necessities

#1.
Shoes and clothes. The river and its banks have jagged edges, shells, sticks, and stones, all just waiting to cut a fresh foot. Old running or tennis shoes cannot be beat. Any comfortable clothing works on the river while paddling. At the end of the river you will probably want an extra set of clothes for the ride home. There is an outdoor shower at the camphouse to clean up.

#2. Boat snacks, drinks, other. Bring snacks and drinks you will want while on the river. BYOB.

#3. If the season is too cold to swim. Bring an extra set of clothes to put in our dry bag. This is a shallow river and the fall and winters runs are beautiful. Soakings are rare but it happens that someone will get splashed, slip from a bank into the water, or somehow get wet. It's something to laugh about if the person has a set of dry clothes; it's not so funny if the landing is 45 minutes away.

#4. If you're spending the night. The camphouse has three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms have a double bed plus a bunk bed. One of the bedrooms has two double beds. Feel free to bring your own linens, sleeping bag, pillow, or use the ones that are there already. There is an outdoor grill.

#5. Fishing. Cane poles are at the pond. Feel free to bring a reel and rod and lures. The pond has bass and bream. The river has striped bass, bream, and catfish but we do not fish when group kayaking.

Another blog I've written about this river appears at: http://riverrunningjournal.blogspot.com/
